Sculpted in the Art Deco style by artist Ada Mae Sharpless, the statueʼs official name is Our Queen of the Angels, but most people refer to it as “The Lady of the Lake.” Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave the 14-foot-high stone statue as a gift to the city of Los Angeles in 1935. The Lady of the Lake is a prominent feature in the final moments of Michael Connellyʼs L.A. centered detective novel Echo Park.
