Two Old Ladies Walk Into A Bar... by Nancy Haigh & Gay Rabisi

About the Exhibition:

In the late 1960’s, the vibrant and transformative environment of UC Berkeley brought together two talented and spirited young women: Nancy Haigh and Gay Ribisi. Meeting in the art department they became roommates and fast friends. Their friendship blossomed against the backdrop of a changing world, with Nancy majoring in ceramics and Gay focusing on sculpture.

As roommates and best friends, they shared artistic dreams and gave each other moral support through life’s ups and downs. Despite their different backgrounds, they found a common ground in their love for art.  As the years passed, life took them on divergent paths. Both ending up in LA, Nancy became an Academy Award winning set decorator, while Gay emerged as a prominent talent manager. Yet, throughout their careers and personal journeys, they never gave up their passion for art. Now, 56 years later, this exhibition marks a beautiful reunion of two kindred spirits who have weathered the storms of life while keeping their artistic flames alive. “TWO OLD LADIES WALK INTO A BAR…” is a celebration of their enduring friendship, showcasing where each has arrived in her own artistic journey.

“ TWO OLD LADIES WALK INTO A BAR…” is not just a display of Nancy and Gay’s current work, but a celebration of their shared history and a coming full circle of a friendship that has lasted over a half a century.
