"Mundial 86" by John Vink

Legacy West Media is proud to present "Mundial 86" by Belgian photographer John Vink. The exhibition will be coming to Los Angeles as North America hosts the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The exhibition celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Mexico City FIFA World Cup images. John Vink formerly of Magnum Photos, captured the fans, the city life and the iconic moments of Diego Maradona's victory for Argentina. In his own words:
"I am not really a sports photographer. But I find sport interesting to photograph because people watching it are so absorbed by their passion that my presence as a photographer goes mostly unnoticed. And as I am more interested in what is happening on the sidelines than in what is happening on the pitch, it was a boon to have the privilege of having to cover the Mundial ’86 in Mexico. It was won by Argentina against Germany, “with the help of God’s hand”, i.e. the hand of Diego Maradona. Belgium finished 4th. Now, these photographs were taken 40 years ago. We were still decades away from digital photography and autofocus. The Internet was still in its infancy. All I had was a Leica M4 and rolls of Kodak Tri-X .lm. Perfect for those sidelines photographs..."
